Abstract:

A mobile and automatic multiwavelength Raman lidar (Polly) for profiling aerosol and cloud properties in the troposphere has been developed at TROPOS since 2003. This lidar is especially useful for long field campaigns and continuous measurements at certain measurement sites. Currently six of these systems exist and two more are developed right now. Many of the applied techniques are developed from fruitful collaborations with people from the EARLINET (European Aerosol Research Lidar NETwork) community. The huge amount of measurement data from all the systems demanded for a collaboration platform of the users. So a website was set up for collecting the data, for generating quicklooks, and for monitoring system status. The data platform, but also the collaboration between the operators of the lidars was hence called Polly-NET. In the talk the recent technical developments of the systems are summarized, but also some interesing measurements from worldwide application will be presented.
