General Information
A Scientific Meeting on
Climate Change and the Kyoto Protocol will be promoted by the Évora Geophysics Centre at the University of Évora
(Centro de Geofísica de Évora - CGE), bringing together scientists, stakeholders and
NGOs.
The Meeting
aims to assess the implementation of the Kyoto Protocol in Europe, and identify the
challenges it poses, in terms of the scientific and technological problems to be solved,
respecting both the climate system and the energy sector, including the final use of
energy.
Invited
scientists and experts will give an overview on (I)
the Kyoto Protocol implementation, (II) the
scientific background for this protocol, in terms of the mechanisms of climate change and
of its possible impacts and (III) primary
energy sources, energy vectors, intensity of energy use and their interactions with
climate change.
The Meeting
will close with an open Discussion Panel, composed by experts from Portuguese
organisations belonging to different fields of activities and, intended to promote a broad
discussion involving scientists, end users and the community in general.
